From the beginning of time barter has been a more natural form of commerce than the use of money.  Even in these modern days most of the world's economy operates on the barter system since governments find trade and countertrade options more expedient than the exchange of currency

BARTER LISTINGS

This web page contains a listing of Haves and Wants, including items I am interested in trading for.  If you have things I need please contact me. I have been engaged in the barter profession since 1992, having been a broker, part owner or franchise owner for Trade Systems, Inc and Barter Exchange International. It is quite possible that I may know someone who has something you need and can help arrange a trade.  If I act on your behalf as a broker I will charge you a 10% brokerage commission, payable in cash or trade

There are several Barter clubs which operate in the NW Arkansas area.  Having been very involved in the past few years with such organizations I have determined that the value of belonging to such a group varies greatly depending on several key factors:

The integrity and knowledge of the owner or director

The strength of the organization

The discipline of the organization towards member infractions

The integrity and loyalty of group members

These organizations generally charge fees which are necessary to cover the cost of operation including the salaries of the owner and employees.  These fees are affordable if the member is deriving a real value from being a member but so often the majority of members do not.  Sometimes this is as a result of the individual member and other times it is due to a lack of attention paid to individual accounts by the management.  Very often the barter club suffers as a result of "skimming"  The owners of such clubs often take first pick of the best barter goods, leaving only table scraps behind.  The real advantage to being a member of such an organization is that the member sells his goods for barter credits which are able to be spent with any other willing member.  This has the same advantage as dealing with cash.

Barter clubs are not a way to escape payment of sales or income tax.  They are governed by the IRS and each must provide appropriate tax forms to each member.

I am no longer involved with any such trade organization at the present time.  I prefer to trade with individuals "one on one" or in "round robin" trades as they can be arranged.  If you wish to have a page like this one which is linked here, please contact me and I will help you set one up.   [email protected]

I would like to host a "Barter Board Auction" in the Northwest Arkansas area sometime soon.  It is a great way to exchange items with others and there would be an admission cost but no commissions on board sales.
